Shane A. Maxwell, D.O.

Dr. Shane Maxwell grew up a local boy.  Originally from a small town in southern Idaho, he grew up working on a farm and spent many of his summers waterskiing and winters snow skiing.  He was originally interested in being a pharmacist and began his post-high school education at Brigham Young University.  Dr. Maxwell took a break from school and was missionary for his church down in southern Texas.  While there he developed a loved for Mexican food, BBQ beef brisket and a desire for a career as a phsycian.  He returned to BYU and completed a 4-year degree in Zoology.  He then went back to Texas and completed his medical education at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, College of Osteopathic Medicine at Fort Worth.  He was accepted to a Neurology residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Wake Forest School of Medicine.  After completing his 4-year neurology residency he furthered his studies through the Department of Anesthesiology with a fellowship training program in Interventional Pain Management.  Dr. Maxwell returned to Idaho and is now in partnership with Dr. Richard Dubose at the Idaho Pain Center.

Dr. Maxwell has privileges at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and Health South Treasure Valley Hospital.  Most of his time is spent at the clinic taking care of patients.  As a physician managing chronic pain he tries to help patients balance improvements of lifestyle and quality of life, while minimizing the side effect or problems with their medications.  In addition to medication management, Dr. Maxwell utilizes other means of pain control, including: injection therapies, spinal cord stimulation therapy, external devices such as braces or electrical stimulation units and referrals for physical therapy or psychological counseling.

When he is not busy at the office he spends his time with his wife and 6 children.  As a family they enjoy swimming, bicycling, hiking and snow skiing.  He also enjoys time in his shop tinkering on a woodworking project, home-improvement project, or a rusty old car.  He is currently working on a 1950 Dodge pickup.

Dr. Maxwell is also currently an assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America.  He is completing speaker training education programs for the medication, Nucynta.  He continues to stay current in the field of pain management and studies peer-review medical journals and literature.
